Techno is a direction of electronic music that emerged in the mid-80s of the XX century in Detroit, which later gained particular popularity in Europe. This style is characterized by artificiality of sound, repeated repetition of the structural elements of the musical composition and accentuation of mechanical rhythms.
Techno history
Presumably the techno style in music was invented by the so-called "Belleville Trinity" - three young African Americans who lived in the Detroit suburb of Belleville. Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Sanderson experimented with different musical styles in the mid-1980s. Ultimately they settled on German electronic music and tried to make it more danceable, suitable for club DJs. Also, such genres as synth-pop and house had a significant influence on the formation of techno as a separate direction in music.
The first techno tracks appeared in 1985, but the new style did not have a definite name for a long time. For the artificiality of its sound, it was attributed to electronic music, for the accentuation of mechanical rhythms - to house, for multiple repetitions of individual elements of the work - to hip-hop and even to disco - for its dance character.
The name "techno" this direction received in the UK in 1988 because of the collection of Daytroit dance music released there. The publication was called Techno! The New Dance Sound Of Detroit ". Techno quickly gained popularity in Britain, and compositions in this genre began to enter the top ten music charts. In the United States, this trend continued to be an underground phenomenon.
Popular Techno Destinations
Classic American techno is commonly referred to as Detroit techno. The same name is given to musical compositions, sustained in the traditions of techno recordings by Detroit musicians in 1985-1995. Distinctive features of this style were the use of analog synthesizers and drum machines, later this technique was replaced by digital emulations with a characteristic sound for these instruments. Initially, Detroit techno was created using a four-channel remote control, so often only four sounds sound in style compositions.
Minimal techno also originated in Detroit in 1991. This direction is characterized by minimalism of sounding, ascetic, simplified scale and atonal melody. In the works of this style, the acoustic space is discharged, the void between the beats is felt, but the pressure and intensity of the sound are preserved.
Schranz is a popular German techno style. This direction differs from the classical variety in its heavy, minimalistic and often monotonous sound, which is built on the basis of energetic percussion and ragged looped synthetic noises.
