Nikola was born on February 8, 1964 in the Italian city of Oristano. He was born into the family of a businessman from Sardinia and a professor at an Irish university. Nicola lived in the United States until he was almost 20 years old. In 1983 he returned from Chicago to Italy.
It is known about the actor's personal life that he met with the Italian film actress Monica Bellucci in the period from 1989 to 1995.
