Biography

Revaz (Rezo) Levanovich Gabriadze was born in the Georgian city of Kutaisi on June 29, 1936, and all his childhood fell on the hungry post-war years. This did not prevent the adults from treating him with all their attention: the boy fell asleep under the prayer of his grandmother and listened to the sound of the sea, during the day he was saturated with hot sun rays descending from the mountains.

Parents were primarily concerned with the health of their son, not grades at school - he grew up strong and happy. The relationship between Rezo's father and mother was serene: his father's voice was always quiet and calm, often the son and mother read Georgian classics in verse. The parents cared for their child dearly. From vivid early childhood memories, Revaz Gabriadze recalls a snowy sunny day and his nickel-plated bicycle bell.

Neighbors-actors looked after Rezo, when his mother was sick, he visited the theater with them. In the future, this was reflected in his fate, and at that moment the campaigns quickly stopped - the mischievous child laughed loudly during the most tragic scenes. This behavior almost provoked the disruption of several performances.

After leaving school, Revaz worked as a concrete worker, entered various universities, even metallurgical. In 1964 he received his education diploma from the Faculty of Journalism of Tbilisi State University. He did not stop there and already in 1967 went to Moscow for the Higher scriptwriting courses.

Career

"Unusual Exhibition" is one of the first films based on the script of Rezo Levanovich Gabriadze. The plot of the 1968 picture is based on the adventures of the protagonist, who decided to become a tombstone maker and exchange his talent as a sculptor for monetary gain. The picture shows a fantastic collection of Georgian characters and types.

In 1969, Rezo Gabriadze wrote the script for the film "Don't Cry" in creative tandem with director Georgy Danelia. In this work, on the Georgian soil, taking into account national traditions, the plot of the original novel by Claude Tillier was rethought. It reflects the subtlest irony and humor, fantasy and poetry of Revaz, which can be clearly traced in the subsequent more than 30 scripts of Rezo.

The creative union of Gabriadze with Danelia brought amazing pictures to the cinema. Wisdom, sensitivity in understanding their fellow countrymen, philosophical consciousness helped to create "Mimino" in 1978. A film about a dream and spiritual connection with the Fatherland. And in 1986 the hooligan phantasmagoria “Kin-dza-dza!” Appeared on the screens, where they speak the wonderful language of plukan. The painting "Passport" by the creative tandem of Gabriadze and Danelia did not bring such success.

Interesting fact! The famous Rezo Gabriadze is the author of the humorous monument "Chizhik-Pyzhik" in St. Petersburg on the Fontanka.

Rezo Levanovich Gabriadze is the director of several short films:

  1. 1975 Dreams of the Kodzhora Forest.
  2. 1977 Lemon Cake.
  3. 1977 Mountain Conquerors.
  4. 1978 "Passport".

In 1980, Rezo had a conflict with the Georgia-Film studio, and the path to cinema was closed for him. After some deliberation, Gabriadze decided to found a puppet theater, and in 1981 he staged his first La Traviata based on Verdi's opera Alfred and Violetta. Revaz's performances have a deep philosophical meaning and are designed for an adult audience. The Revaza Theater tours around the world.

Personal life

Rezo is a happy husband, father and grandfather. He is married to Elena Zakharovna Gabriadze. They have two children - Levan, Anna, as well as a grandson Zakhar. The son continues his father's work. Levan became famous after the role of Gedevan in the film "Kin-dza-dza". Gabriadze Jr. takes steps in the field of directing.
