The future FSB officer, Hero of the Russian Federation, who died in Beslan in the line of duty, was born in Orsk on December 21, 1975. A boy without a father grew up. Already in childhood, he knew how to tinker, plan, saw. At school age, he became interested in hand-to-hand combat, the basics of which he learned in the sports section. Andrei was distinguished by excellent vocal skills, he performed in the choir.
After finishing the 8th grade, the young man decided that it was time to help his mother. He entered a vocational school to get a useful profession of a mechanic-driver. This education and skills were subsequently useful to the young man during his service in the army and special forces.
At the end of 1993, Turkin was called up to serve in the border troops, which he served in the Trans-Baikal border district. He also took part in difficult military operations on the border between Tajikistan and neighboring Afghanistan. In the summer of 1995, he was dismissed from the border troops to the reserve. Turkin was married. In 2001, Andrei and his wife Natasha had a son, Vladislav. The second son saw the light 5 months after the tragic death of Turkin. In honor of his father, he was named Andrei.
Service in the elite "Vympel" and death
Returning to the Krasnodar Territory, Andrei worked and at the same time studied at the university.
In the spring of 1997, Turkin became an employee of the famous "B" Department of the country's FSB, better known as "Vympel". He took part in military and no less complex special operations that were conducted in Chechnya. He freed the hostages on the day of the terrorist attack on Dubrovka.
Andrei Alekseevich accomplished his feat when, as part of a select group of a special purpose, he arrived in the mountains. Beslan in North Ossetia. On September 1, 2004, three dozen brutal terrorists took more than a thousand adults and children hostage at school # 1 in Beslan.
The events of those days were widely discussed in the press. On the third day, explosions began in the gym of the educational building, where the terrorists were holding hostages. The walls of the building and its roof partially collapsed. The hostages began to scatter in horror, falling under heavy and deadly fire from terrorists. Turkin was part of a combat group that was ordered to storm the facility. The lieutenant was the first to break into the dining room, where there were innocent people. On the move, he destroyed one of the villains. At the same moment, another terrorist threw a grenade at a group of hostages. The decision came instantly: Turkin covered the grenade with his body, saving the lives of civilians. The officer had no chance to survive in this situation.
For his feat, which was accomplished in the name of saving citizens, Lieutenant Turkin was posthumously nominated for the high rank of Hero of the Russian Federation. Andrei rests in the capital of the country along with other employees who died during this operation.
The bust of Turkin was installed later in the Park of Heroes of Orsk. The name of the spetsnaz was also assigned to the cadet class of secondary school No. 53 in Orsk.
