Melodrama is a cinematic genre that reveals the spiritual and emotional world of the characters. The main themes of the melodrama are love, family relationships, friendship. The deep and moving feelings that make up the main content of the melodrama have always been a favorite theme of directors. In 2002, the American Film Institute compiled a list of the best melodrama in 100 years.

Step 2
The 1956 film "An Unforgettable Affair" takes pride of place on various lists of the best melodramas of all time. The film has all the ingredients of a successful melodrama: attractive characters, beautiful interiors, good music and a touching love story. Famous playboy Nick Ferrante and nightclub singer Terry McKay met on a cruise ship. They are both engaged, but this does not prevent them from falling in love with each other. Deciding to test their feelings, the heroes agree to meet in six months, if their love has not yet faded away. Six months later, Nick comes to the appointed place, but Terry does not appear. She has reasons for this, but Nick is sure that she fell out of love with him and got married. Now only real luck will lead them to each other.
Step 3
The 1967 film Two on the Road tells the story of a married couple. The heroes meet in France and over the next years return to the place of their acquaintance. The couple goes through various stages of their relationship: acquaintance, the first years together, the birth of a child, a crisis in the relationship and reunion. The film is built on a mosaic principle: the viewer is shown individual moments from the life of the heroes not in chronological order. The result is a broad and truthful picture of family life. Audrey Hepburn played the main role. She did a great job with the image of an ordinary married woman. Her husband was played by Albert Finney, one of the best English actors of all time.
Step 4
The heroes of the film "When Harry Met Sally" in 1989 accidentally bump into each other several times, and then become friends. They are drawn to each other, but Harry and Sally cannot sort out their feelings. They are waiting for the right moment, but its coming is still being delayed. The story of the development of the relationship of the heroes from friendship and mutual sympathy to true love is very realistic.

Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood starred in the 1995 melodrama "The Bridges of Madison County". The hero of Eastwood, Robert, a famous photographer, has traveled all over the world, his life is full of events. He travels to Madison County for work and meets Francesca by chance. A subtle and poignant story of a short love between two already middle-aged people is superbly played and filmed.
