Serzh Tankian is a famous musician and singer of Armenian origin. He began his musical career at the age of 20. Having achieved certain heights with the System of Down group, the artist switched to solo work and various projects with other musicians.
Musician biography
The first child in the family of Hatchador and Alice Tankian was born on August 21, 1967. The boy was named Serge. Until the age of eight, Serzh Tankian lived with his parents and younger brother in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. But then they moved to the United States. Serge's father was engaged in music all his life, which to a certain extent influenced Serge's musical preferences and his views on the music industry.
In the states, little Serge studied at an Armenian school, receiving, in addition to basic knowledge, musical education (guitar and vocals), as well as knowledge in the field of marketing. In childhood and adolescence, he did not express a particular interest in music and did not plan a career as a singer or composer.
After graduating from school, Serzh Tankian continued his studies in marketing, became a bachelor in business management, became interested in programming. After that, he worked for some time in the field of trade, but this profession did not capture him. Therefore, at the age of 20, the future famous singer and musician nevertheless decided to try himself in the framework of musical creativity.
Musical career
As an Armenian, Serzh Tankian joined the Armenian community in the United States, where he met his future bandmate, Daran Malakyan. Their first team was called Soil. However, the group was later renamed System of Down. The process of creating this musical project lasted from 1993 to 1995. After that, the group began its active creative activity, releasing successful albums and singles, touring.
In the 2000s, Serge Tankian became interested in a solo career. In 2007 he released his first album, which included both exclusively his new compositions and tracks created for the group System of Down.
In 2010, already an accomplished musician and performer, he recorded a musical composition with a symphony orchestra. And a little later, Serge's second disc was released, called Imperfect Harmonies.
The artist's third and fourth solo albums were released in 2012. Singles, music collections and soundtracks for various films were released between all the full-fledged records of Serzh Tankian. The artist managed to try himself as a composer in such film projects as "The Set of Lies", "The Promise". His song Lie Lie Lie is the main theme song in the series Fear As It Is.
Additional projects of Serge Tankian
In 2008, Serge Tankian worked with the Praxis group, recording a successful album with them. In the same year, he presented to the general public a song created in a duet with his father.
In 2011 Serge created the musical "Prometheus" with the group System of Down.
In 2013, the artist actively collaborated with rapper Tech N9ne and released his personal music collection, which mostly consists of instrumental tracks.
In 2016, a collaboration with Benny Benassi took place.
In 2017, Serge Tankian wrote a track for the Russian film The Legend of Kolovrat. A video was filmed for the song with the group IOWA.
It is worth noting that the artist has his own record label called Serjical Strike Records. And in 2011 Serge received an award for his contribution to the dissemination of Armenian music.
Personal life
Serge Tankian has been married since 2012. Angela Madatyan became his wife, with whom the artist had been in a relationship for more than 8 years. The wedding took place on June 9 in California. In 2014, the couple had a child - a son, who was named Rumi Tankyan-Madatyan.
