The real name of one of the greatest actors in the world of cinema is André Robert Rembourg. The pseudonym that made him famous is in fact the name of the city where the future performer grew up.
Searching for a vocation
The celebrity's biography began in 1917. The baby was born in Preto Vikmar on 27 July. With a three-year-old son, the family moved to the town of Bourville. The boy studied at a local school, from the age of fifteen he began working in a bakery. Already then he played the mandolin, mastered the harmonica and clarinet. The teenager performed with the village orchestra and wrote songs.
Rembourg's military service began in 1937. He did not leave music, played in the regimental orchestra, participated in song competitions. After completing the service, the young man stayed in Paris. He performed in the metropolitan variety show, became famous as a coupletist.
A successful career was interrupted by the Second World War. Having been both at the front and in captivity, Burville, as an accordionist-accompanist, performed in front of the soldiers along with the troupe of the singer Borda. In 1941, he signed his first solo contract, and by the end of the war, Andre became the star of the music hall.
Success
The artist created his own comic image of a simple peasant. A village simpleton in short trousers and a jacket, which was small, appeared on the stage. Arms and legs stuck out absurdly from under the clothes. Before appearing in public, the artist did a funny bang.
This is exactly how Bourville came to the cinema in 1945. He played along with the most famous artists. Especially memorable are his duets with Marais and de Funes. Success was built on contrast. Thus, in The Hunchback and The Captain, Jean Marais's spectacular hero looked even more ideal, becoming more real thanks to the company of a clumsy simpleton.
For "The Big Walk" and "Razini", the contrast was the incredible energy of the eccentric de Funes and the equanimity in any situation of the character of Burville, a phlegmatic simpleton. In the frame, their interaction just sparkled with humor.
Family and creativity
The performer was also realized as a screenwriter. He created the script for the short film "Grrr …." in 1952. In 1956, the artist was awarded the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival for his work in the film Across Paris, Best Actor. The comedian managed to surpass Jean Gabin, who became his film partner. In 1968 Bourville became a Knight Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters.
The artist's personal life was also successful. Jeanne Lefrik became his chosen one. Young people met at a dance. They became husband and wife a few years later. The family had two children, sons Dominic and Philip.
"Monsieur-as-everyone" until the last days remained a simple man without the slightest signs of celebrity. In the film "Red Circle", for the first time in the credits, his name was indicated, and not only the usual pseudonym. The unique original actor passed away in 1970, on September 23.
