Step 2
Wearing a kitchen glove or using tongs to avoid scalding your hands, slide the back of the adhesive side of the envelope through the steam. This will soften the adhesive backing where the envelope was sealed.
Step 3
Run the envelope over the steam for 15 seconds so that the steam does not soak the paper at all. After the first 15 seconds, place the envelope on a dry surface. If the glue is not soft enough, move the envelope back and forth over the steam again to make sure the glued area is wet along its entire length. If the envelope becomes too damp, remove it from the steam, and then repeat the procedure as soon as it is dry. This can be done within about three minutes, otherwise the contents of the envelope will also begin to get wet.
Step 4
Use a very thin kitchen or office knife to gently lift the tip of the edge glued to the envelope with the tip. Do not under any circumstances tear the edge, this will reveal the fact that the envelope was opened. Usually the edge that has been coated with glue, while warm, comes off gently and easily.

Very carefully coat the envelope with a paper glue stick if the old glue does not stick a second time. You can use thin double-sided tape. Avoid using liquid glue for re-sealing as it is most visible and smudges easily.
