Step 1
Analyze the phone number that appeared on the display. The first digits show the country code. As a rule, it is one, two or three digits. Remember that the code of the Russian Federation is the number "7". This is followed by the code of the desired city. For regional centers, the telephone code consists of three digits, and for other settlements it consists of five, while the first three indicate the area code, and the second two indicate the area code. For example, the number "+ 7-843-66-phone number". “+7” means that the city is located in the Russian Federation, and “843-66” is the code of the settlement, where “843” is the code of Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, and “84366” is the code of the village of Arsk, located in this republic.
Step 2
Rewrite the code of the desired city separately or remember it. In the example case, these will be the numbers "84366".
Step 3
Identify the name of the city by the code. In this case, you have two options. Open the printed telephone directory. As a rule, the first or last page of the directory contains a list of cities with codes. Analyze the lists and find the name of the city you are looking for. This method is inconvenient in that you need to spend a lot of time searching, and it is not a fact that the desired city is in the directory.

The second search method is more modern and faster. Open your browser to access the internet. Enter the site in the address bar www.telcode.ru. In the search form, enter the telephone area code without spaces and separators. Click Show. The Internet directory will display the name of the desired city and the regional center in which it is located on request. The standard search form searches for cities in the Russian Federation. In order to select another country, above the search there is a list of various CIS countries. Select the required country and enter the code in the new search form
Step 5
Find the city you are looking for on the map in the atlas. If you do not have an atlas available, use the Internet. Go to the website https://maps.google.com, enter the name of the city you are looking for in the search bar and click the magnifying glass search icon on the right. The service will display the desired city on the map. If necessary, you can zoom in on the map to view the city in more detail, or zoom out to see exactly where it is located.
