Paracelsus is a well-known physician and pharmacist, alchemist and occultist. The creator of many books on medicine and pharmacology. The person who owns the world-famous phrase: “Everything is poison, everything is medicine; both are determined by the dose."
The real name of the famous physician is Philip Aureol Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim. The pseudonym Paracelsus, which means "like Celsus", he either chose for himself or received from his fellow doctors.
Philip Aureol Theophrastus Bombast von Hohenheim was born in the city of Aigues on September 21, 1493 in the family of a doctor. His parents belonged to an old but impoverished noble family. Paracelsus received an excellent education, which included medicine and compulsory noble lessons. These include fencing, philosophy, etc.
Paracelsus graduated from the University of Basel, after which he studied alchemy with one of the most famous adepts of magic and astrology, Abbot Johann Trithemius. From the University of Ferrara, he received his doctorate in medicine. After his studies, Paracelsus traveled a lot around the world.
He visited many universities in Europe. He participated as a surgeon in many military companies. According to rumors, in his wanderings, Paracelsus reached North Africa, Russia, Constantinople and Palestine. The knowledge he gained on these journeys was vast and unique. This knowledge allowed him to create his own unique methods of treatment.
Upon returning to his homeland, Paracelsus became the city doctor of Basel, in addition to this, he began to lecture at the University of Basel. He taught his classes in German, in contrast to his colleagues who used Latin. In addition, all of his performances were original and based on personal experience.
This caused a wide resonance in the university and the city, and Paracelsus had to leave him; moreover, he was excommunicated from the academy for 10 years. The doctor traveled to German cities, but he could not stay for a long time anywhere. Because of his knowledge and skills, he was called either a sorcerer or charlatans.
After a long wandering, the great doctor settled in Salzburg. He wrote a huge number of books and treatises on medicine and philosophy. Paracelsus invented many amazing medicines ahead of their time. He was able to stop the outbreak of the plague in 1534 and understand the causes of silicosis.
The famous physician and alchemist died on September 24, 1541. The circumstances of his death are still unknown. But according to some reports, he could have been killed by bandits hired by one of the doctors.
