Then Yanka applied to the Institute of Water Transport in her native Novosibirsk. Studying was still far from being in the first place for the girl; she devoted most of her time to the student ensemble "Amigo", in which she began performing almost immediately. By and large, this was the beginning of a career as a rock musician.
In 1985, colleagues from "Amigo" introduced Yanka to the local "rock guru" Irina Letyaeva. Letyaeva helped aspiring musicians and supported the already well-known "rockers" of the country. So K. Kinchev, A. Bashlachev and many others stayed in her apartment very often. At one of the apartments at Letyaeva's, Yanka met Alexander Bashlachev, the rock musician had a great influence on the aspiring performer, later this will become noticeable in Yanka's work.
At the beginning of 1988, the singer recorded her first full-length album, which was called "Not allowed". In the same year, she was first invited to a rock festival.
