The modest club Blackburn Rovers was the favorite, and London's Arsenal was also among those wishing to get a promising player. When the deal with Blackburn was almost completed, the legendary coach of the Red Devils Sir Alex Ferguson called Keane literally overnight and asked: does the talented athlete want to play a little for the famous Manchester United? The young footballer without hesitation refused to move to Blackburn, and two weeks later, Keane trained at the base of the Red Devils.

Roy Keane understood that a big club would have to work hard to get into the squad. From the very first match he gave all the best, the head coach liked the agility of the young player and he more and more often released Keane on the field. Roy coped with the task, and from the next season he became one of the key players of the "Red Devils". Having played superbly for four seasons, Roy Keane received the captain's armband in 1997, which he did not part with until his departure from the club in 2005.
