Sending correspondence by registered mail is carried out when it is necessary to send important documents, securities, various certificates and forms. The cost of such postage is higher than the usual one, but there are also certain guarantees that the addressee will receive it for sure.
What is a certified letter
A registered letter is correspondence that is sent after the execution of documents confirming the responsibility of the postal service for the delivery and safety of the content. In the event that the correspondence is lost or damaged, the employees who allowed this will be punished accordingly and will be obliged to compensate the sender or addressee.
Payment for sending a registered letter is charged from the sender in accordance with the tariffs established by the post. The amount of payment depends on the weight and size of the shipment, the distance to the region where it will be delivered and the method of delivery. Air shipments will cost a little more than those delivered by land.
The procedure for storage and delivery of a registered letter
When a registered letter arrives at a post office serving the area or settlement where the addressee lives, the employees fill out a notice of the established form and pass it on to the recipient. The notice is delivered to the address indicated by the sender and placed in the mailbox.
After receiving a notification of the receipt of registered mail in his name, the addressee must appear at the post office with a document confirming his identity and a mark about the place of registration.
Registered mail can be stored at the post office for up to 30 days. Letters marked "judicial" are stored for no more than 7 days, and then they are subject to return to the sender marked "the addressee did not appear to receive the letter."
In order for the letter to be delivered to the address of dispatch, it must be marked "hand over personally to the addressee", and the courier or postman leaves a notice to him only if he is not there.
The procedure for registration and sending a registered letter
The guaranteed delivery of registered mail depends, first of all, on the correctness of its registration. To send such a letter, you must present your passport or other identity document at the post office.
Post office workers provide the sender with an envelope appropriate for the size of the attachment. After drawing up an inventory of attachments and placing the contents in the envelope, it is closed and sealed, it is assigned an identification number, which is recorded in all accompanying documents. The letter must be weighed to assess its value and the cost of its delivery.
The sender receives in his hands a receipt for payment for the service, where the number of the item, the time and date when it was accepted by the postal worker must be entered. By the identification number of the letter, you can subsequently track the path of its movement.
