A polygraph test, or a lie detector, is mainly used when hiring employees and is a separate "interview" with a polygraph examiner - a specialist who analyzes polygraph data and separates truth from lies.

Step 1
The polygraph test begins with the fact that several sensors are connected to the test object, which will monitor the psychophysical state of the person being tested on the lie detector. After that, the polygraph examiner will try to find the so-called reference points - the states in which you find yourself when you are surely telling the truth and for sure lying. To do this, the specialist asks his "client" elementary questions.
First, those that cannot be discreetly lied to. This includes topics such as name, clothing, skin color, and characteristics that are generally common to all people. After that, on the contrary, the polygraph examiner asks to lie. This approach allows you to collect information about the state of the body at the moments when a person is lying and when telling the truth. Now you can start real testing.
Step 2
A polygraph interview usually lasts two to three hours with short, five-minute breaks. There are usually no more than a hundred questions, but they are periodically repeated to collect the most complete and accurate information.
Step 3
When hiring employees in the state, company leaders are primarily interested in whether the candidate takes drugs and whether they have ever taken them, and they also cannot avoid questions about theft and other illegal actions, even if it is a fine for moving in the wrong place. It is not necessary to lie at all - an experienced polygraph examiner, before a series of tricky questions, always offers to confess everything himself, without the participation of a polygraph, noting that "frank confession" will be counted when hiring.
Step 4
Sometimes there are also quite personal questions about betrayal, friendship, dreams. Often employers are interested in your attitude towards others and superiors. This is not always pleasant, but as a rule, there are no overly frank or intimate interview questions.

Most of the known methods of deceiving a lie detector today no longer work, and an experienced specialist can easily see the moment where the test takers are trying to deceive the polygraph. Nevertheless, many manage to deceive both the lie detector and the polygraph examiner. But for this you need to have good nerves and try to deceive the polygraph examiner even at the stage of looking for reference points, confusing the program and its operator at the very beginning, when serious questions are still far away.
