Natalya Venediktovna Kovshova's father took part in the battles of the Civil War. He was an active Bolshevik and his career went along the party line. His fate was difficult. Venedikt Dmitrievich Kovshov was a supporter of Trotskyist ideas, for which he was expelled from the Communist Party. Natalya's father managed to restore his party affiliation, but in 1935 he was arrested. The former communist was exiled to the Kolyma camps.
Biography
The first years of Natalia Kovshova's life were spent in the capital of Bashkiria, Ufa. After the family moved to Moscow, the girl received her secondary education at the famous school number 281. She dreamed of connecting her life with aviation and studying further at the Moscow Aviation Institute. Until 1941, the girl found a job at the Orgaviaprom trust and was intensively preparing for the entrance exams. However, the war, which began on June 22, 1941, crossed out the peace plans of the Soviet people. Natasha decided to go to the front and volunteered. She was sent to sniper courses, in the fall of 1941 the girl was at the forefront.
She took part in the battle of Moscow, then fate threw a well-aimed sniper to the North-Western Front in the 528th Infantry Regiment. For courage and ability to hit sniper positions and machine-gun crews of the Nazis, Natalya Kovshova had many marks in the award list. Her rifle ruthlessly destroyed opponents. By the spring of 1942, the girl-sniper had about two hundred deadly enemies on her account. Natalya Venediktovna was an excellent mentor for the young recruits and shared her secrets of accurate shooting with young soldiers of the Red Army.
The last fight
There was a real hunt for the snipers. The deadly battle for Natalya Kovshova took place on August 14, 1942. The heroine of our story and her fighting friend Maria Polivanova took up the challenge not far from the Novgorod village of Sutoki. The enemy's forces significantly exceeded the capabilities of the two fighters, but the brave snipers continued the battle, even receiving several wounds. When the stocks of cartridges ran out, the girls calmly waited for the moment that the Germans approached their position and pulled out the pin of the grenades. Having died in battle, they also destroyed their opponents.
The grave of Natalia Kovshova is located in the Novgorod region near the village of Korovitchino. The heroic girl received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously in 1943 on February 14.
