The written request for political asylum must indicate the reasons for fleeing from the home country. For the period of consideration of the application, a foreigner is issued a special certificate, which confirms that the person is in the country legally.

Russia gives refuge to all foreigners who are persecuted and persecuted in their home state for their beliefs, which do not contradict democracy and do not violate the norms of international law. The application should be considered no longer than a month.

If the application is rejected, the period of stay of the foreigner in the Russian Federation is fully controlled by the government. A person who has received political asylum and his family members can become citizens of Russia.
