The main character of the series is an experienced investigator of the Pyatnitskiy police station, Sergei Glukharev, who has been friends with Denis Antoshin, an employee of the district road patrol service, since childhood. Friends work in a modern metropolis, Sergei loves his boss Irina Zimina, but he is in no hurry to marry her, because in this case one of them will have to quit his job.
The situation in the relationship between Capercaillie and Irina remains unchanged throughout all three seasons of the series.
Once a young law student Nikolai comes to Sergei for an internship, who gradually turns from a naive idealist into a realist. Glukharev teaches him the skills of an investigator and after a while they become friends. Irina arranges for Nikolai as an investigator in the police department, where Glukhar and Denis work, and Sergei introduces his ward to his sister, with whom Nikolai immediately falls in love.
The main part of the episodes of the series "Capercaillie" describes individual events in the life of the main characters, each of which is a complete story. However, there are also stories in "Capercaillie", the plot of which continues over several episodes and significantly affects the fate of the main characters in this popular Russian television series.
