After the death of a person, his relatives, friends, just relatives and acquaintances can order a memorial service in the church, i.e. prayer for the dead. You can pray at the memorial service not only for one deceased, but also for several. In addition to the requiem, they serve lithium, which translated from Greek means "intensified prayer."
It is necessary
pen, paper, rice, raisins, honey, pancakes, jelly, money, candles
Instructions
Step 1
It is possible to serve a requiem not only after the funeral service of the deceased, but also all days before the burial. Which, according to the teachings of the Russian Orthodox Church, helps to facilitate the transition of the soul to another life.
Step 2
The requiem is performed not only over the body of the deceased, but also on the anniversary of death and on birthdays. A short prayer for the tranquility of the soul, which is served directly over the body of the deceased before being taken out of the house, at the entrance to the narthex of the church, at the grave and at home, upon returning from the churchyard, is called lithium. Instead of a requiem, a litiya is served in the church during Great Lent.
Step 3
To order a requiem, you need to contact the priest or the "candle box". If a general funeral service is ordered, then on a piece of paper you need to write the name of the deceased and the names of other commemorated deceased.
Step 4
Ecumenical memorial services, otherwise called parental Saturdays, are held annually in the church. These services are held on strictly defined days: before the Holy Trinity, on Saturday before Maslenitsa, on Saturday the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of Great Lent, before St. Dmitry Thessaloniki, and the commemoration of the soldiers takes place on the day of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
Step 5
At the memorial service for the dead, relatives bring kutya or, otherwise, kolivo. This special dish was previously prepared from boiled wheat with honey; now wheat has been replaced with rice. On top, the kutya is decorated with rice, laying out, for example, a cross. After the priest blesses the kutya, it is given a little bit of a taste to all who come to commemorate before the memorial meal. In addition to koliv, you can serve honey, jelly or pancakes at the commemoration.
Step 6
There is also a civil memorial service. A priest may be present at it, but the memorial service itself is not a religious act. During the civil funeral, wreaths and flowers are brought to the coffin of the deceased, speeches are made, epitaphs are read. Such a farewell can take place both in an open space and in a specially agreed place.
