Biography
Thomas McCormick was born on the evening of May 16, 1930, in a small Texas outback town called Waco. From early childhood, he adored American football (a combination of rugby and classic football, tough contact game), which had become a national sport just ten years earlier and was experiencing a peak in its popularity.
Even before school, Thomas wanted to enter the American football section, but his parents allowed him to do this only in 1939, when the helmet and other safety rules appeared in the rules of this sport.
After receiving school education, McCormick entered the Pacific College, and the main criterion for choosing an educational institution for him was the presence of a football team. Creativity on the field attracted the future famous athlete, and he tried several sports roles before finding his place - the position of a midfielder.
Playing as a midfielder for a college team, Thomas has set football records in many categories for his youth team.
Career
Thomas began his professional sports career in 1952 with the Los Angeles Rams, a famous team from Los Angeles, California, playing in the National League, but only got on the field in 1953 and played three seasons for the club until 1955.
Then, in 1956, Thomas McCormick moved to the San Francisco 49ers, which played in the Western Division of the same National Football League, founded in 1946. By the way, the club got its name in honor of the California Gold Rush of 1849. For a rather young team, the acquisition of an experienced midfielder was a serious help, and the athletes were able to take several prestigious trophies during the season.
Unfortunately, the professional age of the American football player is usually short, this game is traumatic and risky much more than even hockey or boxing. Thomas received 4 serious injuries during his performances on the field - one per year. Because of the injuries and their consequences, McCormick was able to play at the San Francisco 49ers for only one season, and then, after recovering, he took up coaching.
He first worked as an assistant to the legendary Dutchman Norman Van Brocklin, who coached the Minnesota Vikings. Then he became the right-hand man of the equally famous Vince Lombardi, the Green Bay Packers coach, under whose leadership the football club won the National League five times in seven years in the 60s. By the way, the league's main trophy, the Super Bowl, is named after Lombardi.
Personal life and death
Almost nothing is known about the football player's private life. He devoted his life to sports and passed away in September 2012, presumably surrounded by family, wife and children.
