In some organizations, there is only one telephone number, while a PBX is connected to the line. To call a specific employee, after the answering machine answers, you need to dial the extension number, usually in tone mode.
Instructions
Step 1
If you called a PBX number from a cell phone, after waiting for an invitation from an autoinformer, just dial the extension number. Even if you do not hear tones at the same time, they will still be transmitted to the line. If the employee you want to contact is on the phone, you will soon be able to talk to him. If he is not there, do not stay on the line for a long time, because the tariffication of a call starts from the moment the autoinformer answers it.
Step 2
When you call from a landline phone, it all depends on which PBX you are served with. If it supports tone dialing, then your home device, most likely, has long been switched to the appropriate mode by the corresponding switch, and you can dial the extension immediately after the invitation. If not, by dialing the PBX number in pulse mode, wait for the autoinformer's invitation, then press the key with an asterisk (it will switch your device to tone mode), and then the extension number. After you talk and hang up, the machine will automatically switch to pulse mode.
Step 3
Telephones with a rotary dial, like the earlier models of push-button, cannot work in tone mode. If you often have to call PBXs, and your phone does not support this mode, buy a special device - a beeper. It consists of a keyboard, an electronic DTMF synthesizer and a speaker, and is powered by batteries. It is enough to bring the beeper speaker to the microphone of the handset and dial the corresponding numbers - and the PBX will recognize the extension number.
Step 4
If the telephone does not support tone dialing, and there is no beeper, and also if you do not know the extension number of the employee you need, do nothing after the invitation of the autoinformer, and after half a minute you will be answered by the secretary of the organization to which you are calling. Tell him the name of the employee you want to talk to and he will manually redirect you to the appropriate extension.
