Monuments have been created by people from time immemorial. The oldest of them are stone blocks, hewn with the simplest tools. Man has always dreamed of perpetuating himself and the world around him in stone. This is a very durable material, so the heritage of our ancestors has survived to this day almost in its original form.

Step 1
In order to make a monument, you need to draw a sketch. This can only be done by professional artists - sculptors. Therefore, if you do not have the talent of a painter, it is better to entrust the matter to professionals.
Step 2
On the basis of the sketch, a drawing of the monument is made. It can be simple if it is intended to make a simple slab of stone or metal, with a bas-relief or engraving. Or complex, three-dimensional, if you plan to sculpt a sculpture. Also, the drawing indicates the main parameters of the product, width, height, thickness, and also indicates the material from which the monument will be made.
Step 3
If the construction of the monument is complex, then you need to make a model. It can be made of any plastic material - clay or gypsum. It is better to make a life-size mock-up so that you can accurately imagine how the finished product will look like. The more complex the sculpture is supposed to be, the longer it will take to make the model.
Step 4
Further, the necessary modifications are made to the drawing of the monument, the dimensions and parameters of the product are adjusted. Sometimes, in the process of creating a model, it becomes clear that the material for the monument is not the most suitable. Then the metal is replaced by stone (or vice versa).
Step 5
If the monument is made for personal use, for installation in an apartment, in a country house or in an office, then coordination with higher organizations is not required. If the sculpture is planned to be placed in a public place, you need to obtain permission from the district prefecture.
Step 6
For this, the project of the monument, together with the model, is submitted to the regional department of culture along with a letter addressed to the head of the district. Further, the project and the permission for the installation are coordinated with the district administration, as well as with the inspectorate for the protection of ancient monuments and architecture. This process takes a very long time, therefore, if you are making a monument for a significant date, start bypassing the permitting authorities in advance.
Step 7
When all the necessary permissions have been obtained, the sketch, drawing and layout are sent to the sculptor's workshop. Creating a masterpiece is not a quick process. Therefore, if you need not just a plate with a commemorative inscription, but a real work of art, please be patient and let the master bring the project to life.
