The main character is a young teacher Ron Clark, who moved from North Carolina to New York and found work in one of the Harlem schools. This teacher had his own teaching methods and unbreakable faith in his students. Thanks to this, he made the children believe in themselves, and also show high results during the state exams.

The parents of this boy have a difficult relationship, because the mother is not distinguished by fidelity and is ready to cheat on her spouse with every man who looks like a star. The father of the family tries not to pay attention to such antics of his wife, and devotes all his free time to repairing a boat that no one needs. Everything changes when a little girl Cassie, who miraculously survived a car accident, but lost her parents, gets into the family's house. Ben and Cassie quickly hit it off and decided to flee their home to Baltimore.
