Step 1

Submit an application to renounce Georgian citizenship to the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. In this case, be sure to take a certificate stating that you have started the procedure for renouncing citizenship. Take 3 photos, 3x4 cm. At work, take an income statement. If you did not receive an education on the territory of the USSR (before 09/01/91) or on the territory of the Russian Federation (after 09/01/91), then take the test for knowledge of the Russian language at the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University. Don't forget to get your test certificate. (If you received it, then to confirm your knowledge of the Russian language, it will be enough for you to present the diploma you received at the consulate.)

Step 2

Ask your parent, a citizen of the Russian Federation, to send you their Russian passport or a copy of your passport. (A copy must be certified by the territorial body of the FMS of the Russian Federation).

Step 3

Come in person to the Russian consulate in Georgia. In addition to the documents listed above, you must have with you: an identity card indicating your place of residence and a birth certificate. If the documents are not in Russian, they must first be translated. Translation of documents is notarized. All seals and stamps on the papers are also subject to translation.

Step 4

Write an application for obtaining Russian citizenship on the form in the prescribed form. Attach all of the above documents to it, pay the fee ($ 45 for 2011) and wait 6 months for the consulate to consider your application.

Step 5

If the consulate for some reason refused to accept your documents for obtaining citizenship, then you will receive a Russian visa. After legally crossing the Russian-Georgian border, you will be able to apply for citizenship on the territory of the Russian Federation. The documents should be submitted to the FMS of the Russian Federation within 7 days after arrival in Russia.
