Dulat Isambekov is a very detailed writer, he knows the things he writes about, knows the details. This is a prophetic writer. Writes clearly, strictly, without the frills of oriental ornamentation. If we recall our outstanding Russian writers, then in terms of language, severity and thoroughness, Dulat Isabekov's prose is closest to Valentin Rasputin. Dulat Isabekov believed that journalism and literature are not only different genres, but hostile to each other. Publicism serves primarily politics, and literature serves a person, a personality. But when he sits down at his desk, he throws away everything, including this excitement, anger, the rage of everyday aggression, leaving behind his desk.

According to his script, the "Kazakhfilm" studio staged the feature film "Keep Your Star" (1975). The theaters of the republic are playing the plays of D. Isabekov "Rector's Reception Days" and "The Elder Sister". The play "The Elder Sister" won the first prize at the 1977 republican competition for the best dramatic work.

There are no prototypes for the play, but the theme itself, the idea - of course, are directly related to the life of the writer. When the mother died, three boys remained in the family; the two older sisters were married, and the older brother was just in the tenth grade. The older sisters forced him to marry at the age of seventeen so that all the younger brothers would not scatter around the world. And when the two sisters left, leaving their young daughter-in-law (also seventeen years old), the writer witnessed a conversation during which they took an oath from her: “You are the mother of these two boys. Remember this! " Then one day the husband of the elder sister arrived: “Listen, you have your children scattered. And you are here. We are completely hungry, everything is covered in mud, we eat anything … When will you come back home ?!”. And the older sister told him: “Don't talk! Go away and deal with our children yourself. Brothers are dearer to me than my own children! " Who will say that now? Where did it come from? What kind of Heart does she have? When a writer remembers how she spoke, with what intonation, his tears flow. This is how the play about the elder sister appeared.

In 1979 the story “Waiting for tomorrow” was published, in 1982 “Heirs”, and in 1986 - “Little aul”.

On the basis of Isabekov's works, scripts were written and feature films were staged ("Emerald", 1975, dir. Sh. Beisembaev), "Wormwood-grass" (1986, dir. A. Ashimov), "Life" (1996, dir. U. Koldauova).
