Step 1
Under Norwegian law, a permanent residence permit can be issued to a foreigner in several cases:
- upon family reunification (presence of Norwegian parents or marriage to a Norwegian citizen);
- cultural exchange, including study;
- obtaining a work permit and an invitation from the employer;
- granting political asylum. Since the presence of Norwegian parents and political asylum are quite rare and difficult options, most of those who wish have to look for other options for moving.
Step 2
The easiest and most convenient way to obtain a residence permit in Norway is through student studies. To do this, you must enroll in the full-time department of any state-recognized university, institute, technical school, gymnasium, art school or higher school of public education. At the same time, you need to be able to finance your studies throughout the entire period and have housing for the period of study. In this case, after graduation, you can apply for the right to work.
Step 3
It is much more difficult to obtain a residence permit as an employee. To do this, you either need to have an invitation from a specific employer who is ready to hire you and pay a salary sufficient for living, or prove your worth as a unique specialist or employee performing particularly difficult or hard work. For non-specialists, the most suitable options are seasonal agricultural work or dirty and hard work, which the native Norwegians do not want to do.
Step 4
To move to Norway for permanent residence as a result of marriage with a Norwegian, you must have a marriage partner who is ready to send an invitation and provide documents confirming his consent to marry, with a certain amount of annual income. To conclude a fictitious marriage, in addition to a potential partner, you will also need a substantial amount of money in the amount of about 10-15 thousand dollars. In addition, the immigration service will require proof of the reality of the relationship.
Step 5
It is important to consider that in order to avoid problems with the migration service, a work and residence permit must be obtained before entering Norway. Only political refugees can stay in the country without these important documents for more than three months during the consideration of their application. The application for a residence permit must be submitted to the Norwegian embassy at least two months before the planned departure, as it will be reviewed first at the embassy and then transferred to the state department of the migration service.
