Don't stop activities. The number of people with whom politicians communicate on a daily basis exceeds all reasonable limits. The chance that you will be remembered for one major event is almost zero, so try to take on various kinds of projects and events as often as possible. Constantly being in the field of view of the relevant people, you will at least interest them.

Read literature about communicating with people. Even if you have an innate charm and charisma, it is simply necessary to concretize some things.
