In Western countries, especially in the United States, serials have long been considered a new art form. Season after season TV channels sponsor the production of comedy and detective series that are wildly popular with viewers. Fortunately, many of these series are now available in Russian.
The Big Bang Theory Comedy Series
The Big Bang Theory is the most popular American TV series in recent years. The first episodes were shown on CBS back in 2007, and since then 7 seasons have been released.
In the story, four physicists (Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard) lead the boring and sometimes strange life of scientists. Day in and day out, they go to the same cafes, play computer games, visit a comic book store, and are completely unable to communicate with girls. One day, the charming waitress Penny, a bright blonde with a secondary education and an intricate personal life, becomes a neighbor of Leonard and Sheldon. It is in the contrast of her immediacy with the cleverness of physicists that the plot line of the series is built.
Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, has won the prestigious Television Emmy Awards multiple times for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
Detective TV series
Definitely worth watching The Killing. It takes place in rainy American Seattle, where detectives Linden and Holder are investigating the mysterious death of schoolgirl Rosie Larsen. The crime turns out to be so intricate that many well-known townspeople are among the suspects. The series attracts not only with an exciting plot, but also with a deep psychologism of what is happening. Viewers witness the monstrous drama of a family that has lost their beloved daughter. In parallel, the personal stories of each of the detectives unfold, which turn out to be no less dramatic.
In 2011, the first season of Murder was released, followed by two more. In the future, the release of the fourth season is planned.
The Homeland series, especially the first of its three seasons, made a splash on American television. The fight against terrorism, which is relevant for Americans, made viewers of the series look forward to the release of each new series.
In the story, Sergeant Brody returns to Washington from captivity in Iraq. After seven years of imprisonment and torture, he is trying to re-establish life with his wife and children, to lead the life of an ordinary citizen. Nevertheless, the CIA suspects him of terrorist connections. Agent Carrie Mathison sets up a 24-hour surveillance on him and tries to reveal his true intentions. Gradually, the relationship between her and Brody becomes romantic. The viewer remains in suspense until the very last minute of the series: is Brody a terrorist? If so, which side is he on now?
The actors' play is especially worth noting. The leading actress Claire Danes, known to a wide Russian audience for her role as Juliet in the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, creates a convincing image of a half-insane woman obsessed with her work in the TV series Homeland. Her psychological illness, her emotional experiences, her passion for the work of her life and serious fearlessness - all this is striking in its realism and does not give any opportunity to tear herself away from the screen while watching.
