Biography
Pavel Ivanovich was born on 1925-26-06 in Chelishchev (Vologda region). After school, he became a turner at the Sinarsky Pipe Plant (since 1942). In 1943 he volunteered for the active army, studied at the Sarapul Aviation School.
Since 1944 he was sent to the Yeisk school to study as a naval pilot. After that, Belyaev was sent to Primorye. The naval aviation, where he served, took part in the war with Japan.
In the postwar years, he served in the Pacific Fleet, began to replace the squadron commander, learned to fly 7 different aircraft. In 1956, Belyaev was sent to study at the Air Force Academy. Zhukovsky. During this period, he was offered to become an astronaut and was sent to the detachment. This happened in 1960.
Injury
The astronauts-to-be went through many training sessions, including skydiving. In 1964, Belyaev had to make 2 jumps, delaying for 30 seconds. The second landing was unsuccessful, he injured his leg, ending up in the hospital for a long time.
The treatment was long and difficult, Pavel was able to recover, but only a year later he was able to return. To be admitted to training again, he had to pass the test, consisting of 7 jumps.
Space
In 1965, he and his partner A. Leonov took off on the Voskhod-2 spacecraft. Belyaev became the 10th cosmonaut. The flight program included a manned space walk, which was done by A. Leonov.
During the work on the ship, 7 accidents occurred, 3 of which could lead to the death of people. The control system on the ship stopped working, Belyaev was able to switch the automation to manual mode, then made adjustments to the brake installation. This caused a deviation in the course, so the landing took place in the taiga.
The flight duration was 26 hours. After landing, the cosmonauts had to wait a long time for the search party, surviving at a temperature of -25 ° C.
Personal life, further life after the flight
Pavel Belyaev got married quite early, his wife Tatyana Filippovna gave birth to 2 daughters, who were named Luda and Ira. They lived happily. Tatyana Filippovna always supported her husband, was distinguished by her goodwill and optimism.
After the flight, Belyaev was given the title of Hero of the USSR. In the future, he improved his knowledge, trained young astronauts. He was not allowed to go to space due to his health condition. Belyaev died at 45 years old. (1970-10-01). The cause of death was peritonitis.
They buried him at the Novodevichy cemetery (Moscow). There is a bust in honor of Belyaev on the Cosmonauts Alley. The streets of Vladivostok, Vologda, a lunar crater were named after the cosmonaut. There is also a monument to Belyaev, it is installed in Vologda.
