Despite the fact that the Oscar is a US national award, it has long been the main award in world cinema. The first film awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles in 1929. Among the nominees were only silent and sound films. Since 1932, Oscars have been awarded to short cartoons. And only at the very beginning of the 21st century - in 2001 - the nomination "Best Animated Feature Film" was established.
First full-length cartoons - Oscar winners
The first full-length cartoon to receive the coveted statuette was the sensational "Shrek", created in 2001 by DreamWorks. Almost all the central characters of famous European fairy tales take part in it, and the love story of the main characters - the enchanted princess Fiona and the green giant Shrek - interprets the classic story about Beauty and the Beast in an ironic way.
2002 saw the triumph of Japanese anime. The Oscar winner was the film "Spirited Away" by the outstanding master of the genre Hayao Miyazaki. This is a mysterious, frightening and at the same time touching story of how a 10-year-old girl managed to free her parents from the spell, who, as punishment for their curiosity, were turned into pigs by ghosts.
Pixar and others
The best animated feature film of 2003 was recognized as an unpretentious story called "Finding Nemo". The film, created by the animators of the Pixar company, won the hearts of millions of viewers with its kindness, as well as mesmerizing pictures of the enchanting underwater depths. In subsequent years, the Oscar was awarded to several more films from the same company - The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story. The Great Escape "(2010).
Oscar-winning cartoons also include the fun English animation Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Werewolf Rabbit (2005), the wonderful Australian animated cartoon Happy Feet (2006) and the parody Western Rango (2011), filmed at the famous Paramount Pictures studio.
Oscar-winning fairy tales for girls
The Oscars for 2012 and 2013 were awarded to two beautiful fairy tales for girls. One of them - "Brave" by Pixar, is the story of the rebellious red-haired Scottish princess Merinda, who, due to her stupid selfishness, bewitched and later saved her mother, the beautiful Queen Elinor. The second is made in the best traditions of the Walt Disney company and a very original interpretation of the "Snow Queen", called "Frozen". Her heroines are sisters Elsa and Anna, one of whom has been endowed with the fatal gift of the mistress of snow and ice since childhood. The film tells about true love - both sisterly, which connects Anna and Elsa, and romantic - between Anna and her chosen one Kristoff.
It is wonderful that such kind and bright cartoons are still recognized by viewers and filmmakers of the world.
