Biography

The future famous actor Leonid Kanevsky was born in Kiev in 1939 and is of Jewish origin. He was brought up in a simple Soviet family with his older brother Alexander. Already in childhood, Leonid showed a passion for cinema: he tried not to miss a single high-profile premiere in Kiev cinemas and quickly realized that he himself wanted to become an actor. After school, he without hesitation went to Moscow to enter a theater university.

At first, the young man suffered a setback: neither the Shchepkinsky School nor the Moscow Art Theater wanted to accept him. And yet, with great difficulty, Leonid was able to enter the famous Shchukin School in 1956, where he studied on the same course with Andrei Mironov, Vasily Livanov and other future stars of Russian cinema. Having received his education, Kanevsky began to work as an actor at the Theater. Lenin Komsomol. For more than seven years, the novice artist comprehended the mysteries of playing on stage and, having received the necessary experience, moved to the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya.

In the 60s, Leonid Kanevsky made his film debut. He starred in the films Forty Minutes Till Dawn, The Diamond Arm and The City of Craftsmen. Despite the rather episodic roles, the talented actor was noticed and invited to appear in the TV series "Connoisseurs lead the investigation." This is how the image of the famous Major Tomina was born - a brave and unprincipled detective who became the idol of more than one generation of spectators.

After the end of the series in 1989, Kanevsky no longer had such brilliant roles, so he decided to try his luck in his second homeland - in Israel. In Tel Aviv, the actor founded the Gesher drama theater, where he successfully performs to this day. But in Russia, they were in no hurry to say goodbye to Kanevsky, periodically inviting him to new shootings.

In 2006, Leonid Semenovich tried himself as a presenter, becoming the main protagonist of the program "The investigation was conducted …". The created image was in many ways reminiscent of his famous Major Tomina. It is not surprising that the show became a cult show, continuing to appear on the NTV channel today. A similar project for Kanevsky was the series "Semin", in which he again played the role of a talented detective.
