Mitt Romney - Willard Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee for the upcoming fall 2012 US presidential election. This is the second attempt by the 65-year-old businessman to take the top government post in a superpower, and this time he has moved much further than four years ago. It is curious that if Romney manages to win future elections, the country's first black head of state will be replaced by the first ever Mormon president.

Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947 in Detroit, the son of wealthy parents - his father was the CEO of the American Motors automobile corporation. After high school, Mitt attended Stanford University for one year and then went to France as a missionary for the Church of Latter-day Saints. It is the main denomination of the Mormon religion, to which many generations of the Romney family have belonged. Upon returning to the United States, the future presidential candidate received two consecutive degrees at Brigham Young Mormon University and Harvard University, and then went into business. He co-founded and later became CEO of the investment firm Bain Capital and has run several other firms. In this field, Mitt worked very successfully - in other years, Bain Capital's profits reached 100%, and the company became the leading company in its field of activity in the United States.

The arrival of Mitt Romney in politics did not surprise anyone - his father won three Michigan governor elections, was a presidential candidate and a minister in the Nixon government. Romney's mother ran for Congress, and her brother ran for the position of Attorney General of the state. Mitt participated in the election campaign of his parents from the age of 15, and made his first attempt of his own in 1994, but lost the fight for a seat in the Senate to Ted Kennedy. In 1999, he chaired the organizing committee of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, thanks to which he gained considerable fame in the country. This helped win the election for governor of Massachusetts at the end of the games (in 2002). In 2007, Romney first entered the presidential race, but gave way to Republican candidate John McCain. The second attempt turned out to be more successful - he received the required number of votes in the primaries ahead of schedule already on May 30, 2012 after the vote in Texas. Romney is now the official Republican candidate whose chances against Barack Obama are rated very high.
