Rock in all its manifestations has always been considered a kind of challenge to society, and even at the moment of its formation or the formation of separate directions in rock music, even more so. It is interesting to watch on the screen the life ups and downs of rock stars that have taken place or quickly left the stage, the events in music of the 60-70-80s, the revolt of youth against conceivable and inconceivable rules and, in general, the atmosphere of the rocker backstage. Judging by the number of films on this topic, there are also many rock fans among the directors.
Instructions
Step 1
One of the first films to show the negative side of the life of rock musicians was the film "Sid and Nancy" ("Sid and Nancy", 1986). The film tells about the musician Side Vicious, his friend Nancy, about the popular group Sex Pistols in those years. The names of Sid and Nancy have long become household names, and their union, according to many, including the filmmakers, ruined both of them. This is a tragic story of a man who could not cope with fame and temptation, but very skillfully fit into the image of a punk rocker.
Step 2
Another biographical story is shown in the film "The Doors" (1991). In it, the hero is the rock musician and sex symbol of the 60s, a member of The Doors, Jim Morrison. The era of the immense popularity of rock and roll and the desire for freedom in all its manifestations sweeps on the screen. The Doors and their music, which accompanies the entire film, became the symbol of this era.
Step 3
Another true story - musician Tim Owens - was the basis for the movie "Rock Star" (2001). In the film, the character's name is Chris Cole and he repairs equipment, and in the evenings he imitates the rock band Steel Dragon, performing in small clubs. The prototype of this fictional group is the real-life rock band Judas Priest, into which the hero miraculously falls. This picture is about the fulfillment of a dream, about how an unknown boy could get into the most popular band in the world of heavy metal and become a super-star with all the ensuing consequences.
Step 4
The history of the formation of the first female rock band in the history of the hard rock scene was shown in the film "The Runaways" (2010). The film touches on the period of the mid-70s, when there were practically no women on the rock scene. They were able to blow up the audience and prove that rock can also be performed by women.
Step 5
Many genres of rock music were able to accommodate the musical picture "Rock for Ages" ("Rock of Ages", 2012). The plot is quite simple: a young and talented girl goes to a big city to conquer the stage, but everything turns out to be not as easy as she thought. And practically all the influences of rock and many cult hits were intertwined into such an easy plot. The confrontation between rock and pop music in the film is presented as a kind of confrontation between Good and Evil. The era of the 80s is recreated in the film quite realistically, albeit with a touch of parody.
Step 6
The process of absorption of the common man into rock music and everything connected with it is shown in the film "Almost Famous" (2000). Here, a simple guy who miraculously got a job at the Rolling Stone music magazine goes on a mission on a tour with the popular rock band Stillwater. Hairy rockers, their frantic fans, the whole atmosphere of the rock backstage makes the boy quickly become an adult and, of course, fall in love for the first time.
Step 7
Comedy films are also made about rock. One of them - "School of Rock" ("The School of Rock", 2003) with indefatigable Jack Black in the title role. The plot is that a former successful rock musician gets a job in a private school. His love for rock and his peculiar attitude towards children give birth to a new idea - to resume his career by winning the best rock bands competition. And he will have to win together with the children, who will first need to be taught rocker behavior.
Step 8
Another famous film about the confrontation between rock and pop is "Rock Wave" ("The Boat That Rocked", 2009). The film is based on a true story about a pirate radio station that aired when the BBC played two hours of pop music. Radio Rock broadcasts only the right music, while broadcasting from a ship in the North Sea. There is fun and rock on board the ship, but morality and government are outside.
Step 9
Other foreign films about rock and its various directions also became known: "I'm Not There" ("I'm Not There", 2007) about the life of Bob Dylan, "Velvet Goldmine" (1998) about the birth of glam rock, "Control" (2007) about the life of Ian Curtis and the post-punk band Joy Division, "Killing Bono" (2010) about two brothers who were unlucky enough to start their careers at the same time classmates who named their group U2, "What We Do Is Secret" ("What We Do Is Secret", 2007) about the birth of grunge rock and the history of the group The Germs, "Club" CBGB " ("CBGB", 2013) about Hilly Crystal and his small club, which has become a playground for punk rock artists.
Step 10
Russian filmmakers also tried to shoot rock-themed films, in particular, the film Assa (1987) about the times when rock was banned, and hearts invariably demanded changes, Perekrestok (1998) about the previously well-known band Uncle Alik "and her eponymous leader, trying to arrange his career and personal life," The Burglar "(1987) about the world of Leningrad rock, illustrated by a dramatic story," House of the Sun "(2009) about the philosophy of hippies and the time when no one knew the concepts of "Russian rock", "Brother" (1997) about the gangster times and the main character - a fan of Russian rock, who accidentally manages to meet his idols in between gangsters' showdowns.
