Tanita Tikaram is a British singer and songwriter. She considers herself a continuation of the traditions of folk music performed by renowned musicians Johnny Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Before becoming a singer, Tanita tried herself in painting, design and cinema, but her love of music became a decisive factor in choosing a creative path.

Childhood
Tanita was born in Münster in 1969, on August 12. Her mother was born in Malaysia and her father was on the island of Fiji. He served in Germany, in the ranks of the armed forces of England.
Tanita and her brother Ramon spent their childhood at a military base, where there was no special entertainment for children. At the end of the service, the family moved to the UK and there the girl was educated: first in elementary school, and then at the University of Manchester at the Faculty of Classical Literature.
Creative way
Tanita's career began early. She began to write her first songs in her youth. By the age of 16, she had accumulated a lot of creative material with which the girl could go on stage and perform solo. Her idols were the famous John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen. Love for a certain style in music formed her further creative credo.
In the late 1980s, one of the recordings of Tikaram's solo performance was heard by music producer Paul Charles. He was shocked by the singer's low, mesmerizing voice and immediately decided to attend her concert to see her firsthand on stage. At that time, Tanita often gave recitals in clubs, where Paul found her. From that moment their cooperation began, and a year later the first album of the singer "Ancient Heart" was released.
Success came to her immediately after the release of the album and surpassed all expectations. The audience accepted the young performer instantly. Her melodious, surprisingly beautiful melodies and poems, filled with serious philosophical content, penetrated the hearts of listeners and fascinated them with their sound and meaning. She shared her thoughts on life, loneliness, fate and the human soul in her songs and was unique in her image with shades of sadness.
Musical career and personal life
After the brilliant success of the first album, Tikaram begins to tour a lot across countries with solo concerts. By the age of 20, he traveled to many countries, where the young singer was always warmly greeted by the audience. Her unchanging image in black woolen tights and a sweater, with a huge guitar in her hands, fell in love not only with the audience, but also with music critics. But the girl herself recalls this time as an ordeal. Fully devoting herself to music, Tanita completely forgot about her school friends, her personal life consisted only of endless travels from city to city and a series of concert performances. Perhaps that is why all her songs were saturated with sadness and difficult experiences.
Despite her youth, the singer looked like an adult and serious artist. Her second disc "The Sweet Keeper" was released in 1990 and allowed her to establish herself in the world of show business. The singer masterfully mastered her voice, the lyrics of her songs became her deeper, and the music and arrangements remained the same beautiful.
A year later, her third album was released, but the singer's popularity began to fall, and she, taking a break, stopped touring. During this time, the singer tried herself in cinema and took up painting, but the music returned Tanita to the stage again. In the 1990s, two more albums of the singer were released, which were warmly greeted by loyal fans.
She passed the zenith of fame in her very young years, but even today Tanita continues her creative path and musical career, writes beautiful songs.
