To become a staff member of the United Nations, you must have significant experience in international organizations and volunteer missions. And, of course, the appropriate education.
Instructions
Step 1
Get an education in one of the humanities (law, economics, sociology, social work, etc.). This does not mean that technical specialties and exact sciences are not in demand at the UN. Simply by knowing the laws and having the skills to work with people, you will be able to adapt much faster to service in the United Nations.
Step 2
Check out the size of quotas allocated to citizens of Russia and the CIS countries next year. To do this, you will need to go to the Russian-language UN website - https://www.un.org/ru. Please note: the quotas provided for our compatriots are always exceeded. However, applying for a job is still worth it. It is possible that your level of education and personal experience will be of interest to some of the coordinators of organizations within the UN structure.
Step 3
For a list of these organizations, see https://www.unsystem.org. Go to the pages of those of them, work in which you would be interested in. Find out if there are vacancies and what are the conditions for admission. Before applying, register as an applicant for your chosen position at
Step 4
If you live in a region where there is no UN office yet or where the help of volunteers is required, then you can become an employee of this organization practically without leaving your home. Contact your local administration and find out how you can get started in accordance with the UN Charter. Find out under what conditions control over your activities will be exercised, and most importantly - what exactly it will consist of.
Step 5
If you decide to join a UN Volunteer Mission in disadvantaged regions of the world, your job may include helping disaster victims, teaching children to read, and providing counseling services. That is why, before applying for a job at the UN, prepare for a test of knowledge of the language of the country where you want to go. The test program may include questions related to aspects of international law and the code of laws of the state in which you intend to work.
