The word GOST in our minds is clearly associated with the concept of "quality". At the same time, few people know that since 2002 in the Russian Federation, compliance with the requirements of GOSTs in production is not mandatory. The modern standardization system is based on technical regulations, but GOSTs have not been canceled either.
Instructions
Step 1
Pay attention to the spelling. Simply GOST - State Standard (State All-Union Standard) is a standard adopted in the USSR, at a time when everything was subject to mandatory standardization. Many of them continue to operate to this day, having undergone only a small revision. GOST R is the state standard of the Russian Federation. The sequence of numbers following these letters denotes: XXXXX-XX - registration number and year of adoption of the standard, XXXX. XX-XX - registration number, standardization object group and registration year, XXXX. XX. XX … -XX - number of the system of standards, classes, subclasses and year of approval of the standard.
Step 2
Check out the content of the GOST you are interested in in the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology. The easiest way to do this is on their official website standard.gost.ru. Please note that the texts of the requirements of all GOSTs are laid out in the form of scanned images. This is done because the texts of state standards should not be reprinted in order to avoid typographical errors and inaccuracies. In addition, there are many more Internet resources on which you can familiarize yourself with the requirements of a particular state standard, including the Soviet era, as well as view its status (changed, approved, canceled, etc.) and, if necessary, obtain as a text file. However, most often such resources operate on a paid basis.
Step 3
Read food labels carefully. Many unscrupulous manufacturers lure customers by using the word "GOST" in the name of the product in large letters and only then specify in small print that the product is made in accordance with TU (technical condition), which is not inferior in quality to the requirements of GOST. Of course, this does not mean that the product will necessarily turn out to be bad, but since the manufacturers, as a rule, set the specifications themselves, be prepared for the product quality to be far from your expectations. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to remember the GOST standards of at least two popular products: stewed meat - GOST 5284-84, condensed milk GOST 2903-78 or GOST R 53436-2009.
