Yuri Nikolaevich Ozerov was born on January 26, 1921 in Moscow. His father was a singer at the Bolshoi Theater. Father's ancestors devoted their entire lives to worship. Men of this kind were distinguished by beautiful and melodious heads. The maternal grandfather was a doctor. Yuri's brother, Nikolai, became a famous sports commentator throughout the country.

From a young age, the boys absorbed the spirit of high culture: famous actors, famous directors and singers were often received in the house. A photo has been preserved in the family's archives showing little Yura sitting in the arms of K. S. Stanislavsky.

As a child, Yuri became interested in drawing. At one time he even attended art school. But after a decade, the young man decided to become an actor. Before the start of the war, Yuri managed to study at GITIS for two years.

When the war with the Nazis began, Ozerov went to the front as a signalman. During the war years, he rose to the rank of major, having managed to graduate from the Military Academy a year before the Victory. Frontline observations gave birth to the idea in him: the feat of the people should be reflected in the art of cinema. Among Ozerov's awards are medals “For the Defense of Moscow”, “For the Capture of Konigsberg”, and “For Victory over Germany”.

The war is over. Yuri Nikolaevich decides to continue his education. He becomes a student at the theater institute, and then transferred to the directing department of VGIK. The talented teacher I. Savchenko became his mentor.

Among fellow students, Ozerov will be distinguished by their desire for realism. He chose such stories that captivated the audience with truthfulness and depth.

The first creative works of the director became a contribution to the treasury of world cinema. Among them are the films "Arena of the Brave", "Son", "Kochubey".

Ozerov's work on Soviet art also appeared. It was the film "On a Festive Evening", where it was about famous musicians. The film based on the works of Hasek, filmed in collaboration with Czech film masters, was also a success. The film was distinguished by a humorous manner.

In the 60s Ozerov set about creating the great epic "Liberation". The picture combines the features of fiction and documentary cinema. The director recreated the battle scenes with detailed accuracy. The emotional intensity of the acting gave a special sound to the film. One of the film's consultants was G. K. Zhukov. For this work, the filmmaker was awarded the Order of Lenin.

The last works of Yuri Ozerov about the war were the paintings "Tragedy of the Century" and "Angels of Death", created already in the 90s.

Personal life of Yuri Ozerov

Raisa Sukhomlinova became Ozerov's first wife. Their common son Vladimir later became a doctor of technical sciences, taught at Moscow State University. Another son of Yuri Ozerov, Nikolai, works as a translator.

Dilyara Kerimovna Ozerova became the director's second wife. She was ten years older than her husband and worked as a costume designer. Ozerov met her for the first time on the set of one of the films. After that, they did not part.

Yuri Nikolaevich passed away on October 16, 2001 in the capital of Russia. Ozerov was buried at the Vvedenskoye cemetery.
