What knives can you buy, sell and carry without any possible punishment for it? The question that should arise before the desire to purchase a knife or other cutting, stabbing, chopping object. Let's understand the issue from the point of view of laws
Knives and the law
Legally, knives that do not have a sharp point or are located above the butt line by more than 5 mm are not recognized as melee weapons. In this case, an important factor is the blade, or rather its parameters, which should not exceed 9 cm in length and 6 mm in thickness. The blade of the latter is not sharpened or is completely absent.
Subtleties
When buying, pay attention to the handle. There is one nuance in it, which translates the knife from the category of cold weapons, which brings you under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, to the category of a harmless knife. Remember: if there are even the slightest flaws in the handle, or, for example, its dimensions are too small, and vice versa - too large, then such a knife falls out of the category of cold weapons due to the fact that it is not convenient to hold it in the hand during the battle, therefore, it is more difficult to injure the enemy.
Many do not understand what the criterion "a knife has no edge" means. Like this? Think of the options where it is replaced by something that looks like a screwdriver or chisel. This is what we are talking about. As an example, I can cite the Pirat HK5696 knife, the tip of which is specially made in the form of a screwdriver, or "Katran-1". In theory, they could be attributed to "knives for survival", but only by this one above-mentioned feature, they become just household products.
I personally know collectors who collect knives. And, perhaps to the surprise of many, I will say that some of the well-known brands are not melee weapons, although they are considered so. For example, a blade in the "Tanto" style. Vityaz-Kayman and Sapsan are also not cold.
What not to do
I will note that you cannot send edged weapons by mail or take them with you to meetings, rallies, demonstrations. Those. there are restrictions in our country. But be careful when abroad. In some European countries, there is a ban on carrying any knives, including, oddly enough, pen and nail scissors.
But let's return to our native land. When buying a knife from us, ask the seller for a copy of the certificate (otherwise it is also called an information sheet), in which the following information is displayed: the image of the knife, its characteristics, research results. If the seller cannot provide it, then it is better to refrain from buying in order to avoid further problems with the law.
In general, it is worth noting that in Russia there is a rather complicated system for determining whether a knife belongs to melee weapons or is admitted to free circulation. And you will have to figure it out for a long time, carefully dripping into the laws and regulations. However, I do not advise you to take risks, as this entails certain consequences.
