Military career

Dzhabrail Yamadayev served in the Rocket Forces. After demobilization he returned to Chechnya. Unlike his brothers, he did not fight on the side of the militants, his combat path began in the ranks of the Russian army. 1998 Dzhabrail took part in the battles with the Wahhabis in Gudermes. A year later, he took a direct part in the operation to free Gudermes from the militants. As a result, the city was not destroyed, but was liberated. On account of Yamadayev, a large number of weapons and ammunition handed over to law enforcement officers.

In March 2002, a new division of the Russian army appeared in Chechnya - the Vostok battalion. It consisted entirely of Chechens, many of whom had previously fought in the second battalion of the National Guard, and then became supporters of the pro-Russian forces. Dzhabrail Yamadayev was appointed commander of this unit.

The combat unit has 41 special operations on flat terrain and in the mountains, 114 reconnaissance and search activities. Servicemen of "Vostok" destroyed 16 bases, 137 militants, including 14 high-ranking commanders.

The battalion was considered one of the most effective and efficient units in the Chechen Republic. The successes of the young commander aroused the hatred of the militants. A significant role in this was played by the transition of the Dzhabrail brothers to the side of the feds. Yamadayev had many enemies, and they all wanted revenge. But Shamil Basayev was considered the main enemy of the Yamadayevs.

The Yamadayev brothers have been controlling order in the Vedeno District since 2002. He was considered one of the most criminal in Chechnya, and besides, this place was chosen by the field commander Shamil Basayev. During the year, several attempts and attacks were made on the brothers, which did not bring the attackers the desired results.

The successes of the Vostok battalion did not go unnoticed. They were recognized by both the civilian population and military specialists. One of the brothers' main goals was to capture Basayev and hand him over to the authorities. They were sure they could get to him.

The assassination attempt on Yamadaev

In March 2003, at night, on the 5th, servicemen under the command of Yamadayev arrived in Dyshne-Vedeno for another special assignment: they had to check the information that Shamil Basayev's gang had been spotted in this area. The settlement was well known to the commandos, and even to Dzhabrail himself - they had been here not for the first time, they knew where it was better to stay, with whom from the local to keep in touch, who could be trusted and who should not. But this time all knowledge, caution and tactical tricks turned out to be pointless. The militants chose the most reliable method of assassination - an explosive device. It was installed in the house where Dzhabrail stayed. People from the close circle of the commander do not doubt that there was a betrayal - the special forces simply could not be so negligent in checking the house before spending the night in it. An explosion broke the silence half an hour after midnight. A house on Lenin Street exploded. It was in this house that Dzhabrail Yamadayev and several other servicemen slept. Experts found out that the explosives were in the couch on which Yamadayev was sleeping. That night, besides him, a girl, an employee of the military commandant's office, died and four servicemen were wounded.

Dzhabrail Yamadayev was laid to rest in Gudermes. His funeral was attended by many dignitaries, as well as relatives and numerous friends, associates and colleagues of the deceased hero.
