Gennady Nikolaevich Troshev was born in Berlin in March 1947. His father was a career officer, a pilot who served in the group of Soviet forces in Germany. The father of the future commander went through the entire war and met victory in Berlin. Troshev's mother is a Terek Cossack. Nikolai Troshev met her in Khankala, where he served at one time.
At the end of the 50s, the views of the country's military command on the recruitment of the army changed. Mass layoffs of officers began. Gennady Troshev's father also fell under this campaign. After that, the family moved to Nalchik. Here Gennady spent his childhood.
He graduated from school in 1965. And immediately he applied to the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute, deciding to get a civil education: his father did not want a military career for his son. However, soon the father was gone. Gennady had to become the breadwinner of the family. He first got a job at a furniture factory, and then entered the Kazan Command Tank School. Three years later, Troshev received an honors degree and became an officer.
Troshev's personal life was open to a few friends and close people. His wife Larisa recalls that in his youth he played football superbly, was engaged in athletics and gymnastics. Troshev played the guitar and knew how to draw. Two daughters grew up in the Troshev family.

The years of military service of Gennady Troshev is an endless series of hard work, directed efforts and consistency in convictions.
In 1969, a young guard lieutenant took command of a tank platoon. He served in the 20th Guards Army stationed in Germany. For two years in a row, the unit headed by Troshev was recognized as exemplary. In 1971, Troshev was already in command of a tank company.
From 1973 to 1976, Gennady Nikolaevich studied at the Academy of Armored Forces. In 1976 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 10th Tank Regiment. The service took place in Ukraine. Two years later, Troshev takes the regiment under his command. This was followed by a transfer to Tiraspol.
In 1988, Gennady Troshev graduated from the Academy of the General Staff and was given command of a tank division stationed in Germany. In 1992, Troshev was sent to resolve the conflict in Transnistria, where he took part in hostilities.
In the fall of 1994, Troshev became the commander of the army corps in Vladikavkaz, and then led the 58th army. Its units happened to take part in the Chechen campaign. In the summer of 1999, the forces of the grouping of General Troshev defeated the bandit groups of a number of field commanders. Troshev proved to be a talented commander, capable of achieving military goals without bloodshed. He managed to find a language with the local population, showing the qualities of a peacemaker.
A year later, Troshev became Colonel General, and then took command of the North Caucasian Military District. Subsequently, Troshev took the responsible position of adviser to the country's president. He was actively involved in the problems of the Cossacks, restoring a complex model of the Cossack way of life.
General Troshev died tragically at the zenith of his military and political career in a plane crash on September 14, 2008.
