On August 29, 2012, the 69th Venice Film Festival opened on Lido Island. This forum is rightfully considered one of the most significant in the world. The main program includes films by two Russian directors - Alexei Balabanov and Kirill Serebrennikov. The film of the first one will be presented on the last day of the festival, September 8, the audience watched the film of the second on the opening day.
The work of Kirill Serebrennikov "Treason" represents Russia in the competition of the film forum. The picture tells about a chance meeting of people whose spouses are lovers. The film masterfully presents the psychology of drama. The lead roles are played by Albina Dzhanabaeva, a soloist of the popular VIA-GRA group, Russian actor Andrei Shchetinin, and German artist Franziska Petri.
Experts assess the prospects of Serebrennikov's film for receiving the award as very high. After all, Kirill is one of the most famous directors of Russian cinema. His works have been repeatedly awarded prizes at international competitions. He first found success at the 2006 Rome Film Festival. There, his tape "Portraying the Victim" won the Grand Prix.
Alexei Balabanov with the painting "I Want Too" does not participate in the main competition of the Venice Festival, but in the equally significant program "Horizons". The heroes of the film are a bandit, a musician, a girl, a young man and his old father. All of them set off on a journey to the mysterious Bell Tower of Happiness. Oleg Garkusha, the soloist of the musical group "AuktsYon", plays one of the main roles.
Balabanov takes part in the Venice Film Festival for the first time. However, in Russia his name is well known to movie lovers. Each of the director's extraordinary films - "Brother", "Brother-2", "Zhmurki", "It Doesn't Hurt Me", "Cargo 200", "Morphine", "Fireman" - invariably caused controversy, enthusiastic or negative responses, heated discussion …
Also, outside the main program, a tape of another Russian director takes part in the festival. This is a documentary film "Anton is here beside" Lyubov Arkus, the creator of the magazine "Session". The tape tells about the fate of an autistic boy.
Such world celebrities as Terrence Malik with the film "To Admiration", Takeshi Kitano with the film "Mayhem", Brian de Palma with the film "Passion" and many others will compete with Russian filmmakers for victory.
