Andrei Leonidovich was born in Moscow, in September 1956, in the family of an employee of the Central Committee of the CPSU. In addition to him, his parents had another son - Sergei. Boys were required not only to have good academic performance, but impeccable behavior, as required by the status of their father.

Andrei Leonidovich's father specialized in economics. Children received specialized education in the same direction. Andrei Kostin, after graduating from high school, entered the Department of Foreign Economics of Moscow State University, in 1979 he successfully graduated from it and received a red diploma in financier.

Andrei Leonidovich also added the Finance Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation to his educational piggy bank, on the basis of which he defended his doctoral dissertation, and being already at a fairly mature age - at 45 years old.

All of Kostin's professional activities are related to finance. For some time he was engaged in his own business, but in the end he returned to the civil service and headed one of the leading banks in the country.

  • employee of the Russian embassy in England - 1985-90,
  • First Counselor and Secretary of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - 1990-92.

In 1992, against the background of changes in the country, Andrei Leonidovich left the civil service and went into business. At first, he held a high position in one of the investment and financial companies, and then became Deputy Governor and Advisor for International Relations at Imperial Bank.

The knowledge of Andrei Leonidovich and his experience of work abroad, the desire to give all his best in his post was highly appreciated by the management. The success of the financier was also noted by representatives of the Russian government. Naturally, he received an offer to go into politics, and accepted it - in 1997, Kostin was elected to the council of the public movement Our Home is Russia.

In addition, in 1996, Boris Yeltsin entrusted Andrei Kostin with the post of chairman of VEB (Vnesheconombank), which oversaw the work with foreign debts transferred to the Russian Federation from the USSR.

Andrey Leonidovich Kostin is successful in any professional direction related to economics and finance. From 2002 to 2010, he supervised two organizations at once - he served as head of Vneshtorgbank and was a member of the board of directors of Russian Railways (Russian Railways). But in 2010, he decided to concentrate on work at VTB (formerly Vneshtorgbank).

For his professional merits, Andrei Kostin was awarded several high awards, and his powers as head of VTB Bank were extended more than once, including by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. Kostin will hold this post until 2022.

Since 2007, Andrei Leonidovich Kostin has been a member of the Supreme Council of the leading Russian party, United Russia, and is actively involved in social activities. The Board of Trustees, of which he is a member, oversees such educational institutions as Lomonosov Moscow State University and MGIMO, the legendary Dynamo hockey club.

Kostin invests his own funds in sports and culture. In 2015, he made a gift to the Pavlovsk State Museum - he bought the service of Empress Maria Feodorovna at an international auction and handed it over to the museum.
