When you write the address to which you should send a parcel, parcel post or letters, you usually need to indicate the postal address, including the postal code. And this sometimes causes problems: not everyone knows their own index.

Instructions

Step 1

If you are in your own apartment, look for utility bills or phone bills: as a rule, the full address of the apartment is indicated there, including the postal code.

Step 2

Go to the nearest post office: each of them without fail has a directory containing information about the service areas of all post offices in Russia. As a rule, it is located at the employees who receive parcels and registered letters (they often have to check the indexes). Just state your address and ask for the postal code.

Step 3

You can also find information about indexes on the Internet: it is not secret, but it is quite in demand. Therefore, there are a number of sites where you can find the index by address. The information presented on them is similar, and the principle of working with the index base is similar.

Step 4

If you use the all-Russian database of indices, first select the region and city in which you are located, and then in the alphabetical list - the letter or number with which the name of the street on which you live begins. Then on the page that opens, find the street name. A six-digit code will be written next to its name - this is what corresponds to your postal address.

Step 5

Quite often, houses located on the same street are served by different post offices and therefore have different indexes. In this case, the database will list several indexes - and next to each of them, house numbers will be indicated. Typically, the letter “H” or “H” (even or odd house numbers) follows first, then the range of numbers. For example, "Lermontov Ch (80-152), N (93-131) - 644001" means that this index applies to all even numbers of houses from 80 to 152 inclusive, as well as to odd numbers from 93 to 131 inclusive.
