On September 15, a new 237 season opens at the Bolshoi Theater. Its leadership plans to present at least nine premieres. From which it follows that the new creative year will be rich and bright.
The new theater season will be opened by La Scala in Milan, the audience will see the opera Don Giovanni. In addition, this foreign theater, the first to receive the right to perform on the historical stage after reconstruction, will provide a symphony program for the orchestra, headed by Daniel Barenboim.
Spectators will be able to watch the performances that have made the Bolshoi's worldwide fame. Opera "The Queen of Spades", "The Tsar's Bride" and others. The return of such performances to the stage is a huge work that is not inferior to the creation of new ones. A new version of Borodin's opera "Prince Igor" by Yuri Lyubimov will be offered. La Traviata is scheduled for October.
The ballet season will not be left out either, it will open with one-act ballets. For example, in October, three will be presented, including our premiere "Apollo Musaget" by George Balanchine. Later, Dream of Dream by the famous choreographer Jorma Elo and "Classical Symphony" by Yuri Possokhov will be shown.
A big event will be the return to the historical stage of the ballet "Ivan the Terrible" by Yuri Grigorovich. In the spring of 2013, it is planned to present to the audience the world premiere of The Rite of Spring staged by British choreographer Wayne McGregor. It should be noted that the famous Stravinsky Ballet is one hundred years old. A special project of the Bolshoi Theater will be timed to coincide with this significant date.
They are planning to close the 237 theatrical season with a world-famous production that has not yet been shown in Russia; it will be the ballet “Onegin” choreographed by John Cranko.
Special attention will be paid to the young audience as well. The Bolshoi General Director said that ballet and opera performances will be shown. Cooperation with well-known European theaters will continue. After all, joint performances are important from the point of view of participation in the global theatrical process and from the point of view of the economy. It is worth noting that after the opening of the historical stage, the interest of foreign leading masters in our Bolshoi increased significantly.
