Step 1
Before you start writing a letter, make sure you have a friend's email or postal address. If you are just learning English and are not completely sure of your knowledge, use grammar and dictionaries. Try not to use complex grammatical constructions, write concisely and clearly.
Step 2
Start your letter by greeting your friend. You can use the options “Dear”, “Darling” (both mean “dear”, “dear”), adding the name of the interlocutor to this expression. Informal communication allows simple greetings with a first name such as “Hi, Marco” or “Hello, John”. You can address your friend the way you used to do when meeting in real life.
Step 3
Next, start the text of the letter on a new line. If this is your first email after a live conversation, ask how your friend is doing, for example “How are you?”, “Did something happen?”. Tell us why you decided to write a letter (for example, you wanted to share your impressions of the trip, personal problems, send photos, etc.). If you are late with a reply, apologize (eg “Sorry for late reply”). Politeness will not be superfluous even in friendly correspondence.
Step 4
Write about your life, tell us about what worries you, what has changed since your last meeting. Try to touch on general topics in the letter that concern both of you (for example, hobbies and interests).
Step 5
You can end the letter with standard phrases such as “Your very sincere friend”, “Yours faithfully” or “Best wishes”. In a closer relationship, you can write “Lots of kisses” (“Kisses”). Do not forget to sign your name at the end of the letter, using transliteration or names similar to yours in English (for example, Elena - Helen, Alexander - Alexander, etc.).
