The Orthodox Church calendar includes many different holidays. Some of them are solemnly celebrated by the fullness of the Christian Church and are the most important in the life of the community of people who believe in God. This holiday includes the Day of the Holy Trinity.
The Feast of the Holy Trinity, celebrated annually in the summer, is known not only to church-going Orthodox believers. Those who, for one reason or another, do not go to church very often know about this day. In Russian culture, the Day of the Holy Trinity is marked by various traditions.
The feast of the Holy Trinity itself, which is one of the twelve main Christian celebrations, is not fixed under a specific number. In this regard, the dating of the holiday can be different - it is a rolling one. The time of celebration of the Day of the Holy Trinity directly depends on the date of Easter of Christ.
Otherwise, the Day of the Holy Trinity is called Pentecost. The name itself indicates the time when the Church majestically glorifies God as one in three Persons. Holy Trinity Day is celebrated on the fiftieth day after Easter. This holiday falls on Sunday every year.
In 2016, Holy Trinity Day falls on June 19th (as Easter was celebrated on May 1st). On Pentecost, the believer tries to start his day by attending a service. On the morning of June 19, 2016, a special solemn festive service will be held in Orthodox churches. After the Liturgy, a festive Vespers is served in the House of God, at which the priest reads kneeling prayers. In the text of the prayers, God is asked for the grace of the Holy Spirit for every person. It is known from the Holy Scriptures that it was on the Fiftieth day after the resurrection of Christ that the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles and the Most Holy Theotokos.
The day of the Holy Trinity is otherwise called the birthday of the Church of Christ.
It is especially worth noting that the commemoration of the dead and the obligatory visit to the burial places of neighbors is often attributed to the Day of the Holy Trinity. In fact, there is no need to go to the cemeteries on Sunday, dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the Holy Trinity. On the holiday itself, the deceased are not remembered at the service. The Day of the Holy Trinity is a celebration of living people. Prayer for the dead is assumed by the charter on the eve of the celebration - on Trinity parental Saturday. It is the Saturday before Trinity that is the time when a person can and should devote his day to the memory of the dead.
