History of the Filatov dynasty

In 1836, the guide Filat with the bear and his wife, a servant with the monkeys, received permission from the governor of Nizhny Novgorod to work on the market square. However, the founder of the dynasty is considered to be the Russian trainer of carnivorous animals and the founder of the zoo circus system in the USSR, Ivan Lazarevich Filatov, who was born in 1873 in Saratov. Of his 13 children, only two continued to work in the circus - daughter Maria and son Valentin, who invented the Bear Circus attraction.

Valentin Ivanovich was born on August 12, 1920 in Yekaterinburg, worked in the circus from the age of 6: he was an acrobat, equilibrist, trainer in the group of A. N. Kornilov. In 1935-1941 he was an animal caretaker, then a trainer and assistant at Kornilov.

He performed his own number "Trained Bears" for the first time in 1941 in Kuibyshev. In 1941-1944 he toured with his father in the cities of Central Asia, demonstrating a large mixed group (lions, tigers, cheetahs, as well as birds of different species). At the same time I was preparing a number with four bears.

In 1949 he created the famous bear circus attraction (the premiere took place on November 6, 1949 at the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard), which brought great fame to Filatov. Filatov's troupe toured abroad and acted in films ("Arena of the Brave", "Michelle and Mishutka", "Not all bears sleep in winter"). He died on August 7, 1979.

In 1975, Valentin Filatov released a new program "The Circus of Animals", where his daughters Lyudmila and Tatiana and their spouses began to work with him. Now the sixth generation of the Filatov dynasty is performing at the circus arena.

Biography of Tatiana Filatova

Tatyana Valentinovna Filatova was born on July 19, 1949. Since childhood, she watched the work of her parents: her father is the star of the arena, and her mother worked behind the scenes. But she connected her fate with the circus only at the age of 21. Dad immediately delivered an ultimatum: until Tatiana receives a diploma of higher education, there is no circus. Only when she graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical Institute with a degree in “teacher of English and German” did he say: “Now we’ll go to the Russian State Circus, I’ll make you an assistant at the attraction.” And three years later, Tatyana had the elephant Rada, with whom they worked for forty years. But the trademark number of the dynasty remains the "Bear Circus" - 15 bears, they act as acrobats, jugglers and equilibrists, ride rollerblades, bicycles, motorcycles, play in an orchestra.

People's Artist of the RSFSR Tatyana Valentinovna Filatova has been the artistic director of the collective since 1994.
