The films of the young Russian director Yegor Baranov are criticized, they argue about them, but they are watched. Yes, they are extraordinary in terms of reading history, but they are qualitatively unique, unusual, and therefore in demand.
Egor Baranov considers his work, first of all, from the point of view of aesthetics. For him, they are not just films, but a part of his life, his existence, his thinking. He began to shoot not so long ago, in his filmography there are still few works, but they are all "well known." For one of them, he was even awarded a prestigious Russian-level prize.
Biography, education of director Yegor Baranov
The future director was born in the Urals, in the city of Yekaterinburg, in early December 1988. Nothing is known about who his parents were, what they did, but they prepared their son for professional development in the creative direction from school, and the boy did not mind.
Egor studied at a school with a humanitarian bias. His favorite subject was Russian literature. He loved the subject, first of all, because the teacher in the classroom allowed his pupils to fantasize, and not just asked them for "material" strictly according to the textbook.
The young man decided on the main direction of his professional activity long before leaving school. Immediately after receiving the certificate, he went to Moscow, where from the very first attempt he entered a prestigious specialized university - VGIK.
Yegor Baranov graduated from the course in the workshop of Valery Rubinchik and Sergei Solovyov with honors. Moreover, the teachers gave the young man such recommendations that immediately after graduating from the university he got the opportunity to shoot a "full film" with the participation of already eminent actors. And he took full advantage of the chance that fate gave him. Almost all of Yegor Baranov's films are a whole scattering of real stars of Russian and European cinema.
The work of director Yegor Baranov
Yegor began filming when he was still a student. His first works were clips for the Russian musical groups Chaif and Leningrad. It was extremely interesting for the young director to work with pop artists of this level, but he wanted more.
In 2007, he tried his hand at a new direction for himself - documentary cinema. The first work was a trial, short - the film was called "Watch Children Die" and lasted only 10 minutes, but it carried so much emotion and information for thought that it simply could not go unnoticed. In the same year, Yegor Baranov shot a short fiction film - the film "Grains", which later became a participant and nominee for one of the categories of the "Kinoteatr.doc" festival.
In addition, as a student at VGIK, Baranov directed three episodes of the project "Invisibles", staged a one-act play "Hamlet" and released its version in 3D, worked on a series of programs "Secrets of the World with Anna Chapman" (Clairvoyance).
Immediately after receiving his diploma, Yegor Baranov began work on the full-length feature film "The Suicides", for which he himself wrote the script, and in which he starred in a small cameo role. Such stars of Russian cinema as Stychkin, Akinshina agreed to act in the debut project of the novice director. Vorobiev. In the next film, entitled "Nightingale the Robber," Baranov starred Okhlobystin and Fandera.
Now in the creative piggy bank of the young director Yegor Baranov there are already 17 works. Critics and viewers consider films such as
- Locust (2013),
- "Fartsa" (2015),
- "Gogol" (2017-19),
- Priest-San: Confessions of a Samurai (2015).
Eminent actors consider the fact that Baranov invites them to act as a real success. The young director has already allowed Menshikov, Tkachenko, Petrov, Andreeva, Fedorov, Tsapinik, Derevyanko to “show off” in his works. Yegor himself does not think that he made the stars happy with his invitation, but they are grateful to him for the opportunity to work on interesting, extraordinary projects.
Recognition and awards of Yegor Baranov
The main award of the young director, in his own words, is the Golden Eagle award, which he received in 2019 in the nomination for the best mini-series or television film for the film Sparta. The film tells that thought is material and the most terrible fantasies, hidden deep in the soul, can be embodied in reality. If we talk about the genre of the picture, critics believe that it balances on the brink between a detective story and a psychological drama. Artem Tkachenko, Petrov Alexander, Olga Sutulova, Oleg Gaas and other recognized masters from the new generation of Russian actors agreed to act in it.
Besides the Golden Eagle, Yegor Baranov has other achievements. These are the audience sympathy of the Vyborg Festival, the Best Film and Best Cinematography awards at the Cannes Film Festival for the film Locust, the Georges People's Film Award and others.
The personal life of director Yegor Baranov
Yegor never talks about personal things. Not a single journalist has yet managed to "bring" him into this plane of interview, to find out from him whether he is married, whether he has children. And this is his right, which the media and fans of talent respect.
Yegor Baranov has pages on popular social networks, but there you can't find his photos with girls or with children. He closed this side of life as tightly as possible both from fans and from newspapermen. Surprisingly, there is no gossip about him in the press either. So far, no one has tried to ascribe novels to him with anyone, and he himself does not give a reason for such speculation.
