The 2012 Oscar ceremony was traditionally held in Los Angeles at the Kodak Theater. Nine films contested for the right to be called the best film. Among them are The Tree of Life, The Keeper of Time, Terribly Loud and Extremely Close, The Man Who Changed Everything, Descendants, Midnight in Paris, The Servant, War Horse and the winning film "Artist".

The main characters of the films "Artist", "Descendants", "Spy, Get Out!", "The Man Who Changed Everything", "Better Life" claimed the best male role. The jury of the film academy gave preference to the artist from the film of the same name.
Step 2
The best female role could have been for the main characters of "The Mysterious Albert Nobbs", "7 Days and Nights with Marilyn", "The Servants", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." The fifth contender, Meryl Streep ("The Iron Lady"), won.
Step 3
The Oscar for Best Supporting Actress went to Octavia Spencer of The Servant. Jessica Chastain from the same picture, as well as actresses from "Bachelorette Party in Vegas", "Mysterious Albert Nobbs" and "The Artist" had chances to win.
Step 4
Best Actor in a Supporting Role awarded to Christopher Plummer (Beginners). Actors from "The Warrior", "The Man Who Changed Everything", "Terribly Loud and Extremely Close" and "7 Days and Nights with Marilyn" also fought for her.
Step 5
Michel Hazanavicius, who directed The Artist, was named Best Director. The competition was the "Tree of Life", "Keeper of Time", "Descendants" and "Midnight in Paris".

The top five screenplays included "Bachelorette Party in Vegas", "Divorce of Nader and Simin", "The Artist", "The Limit of Risk" and "Midnight in Paris" (winner).
Step 7
The best adapted screenplay belongs to the comedy "Descendants", which competed with "Keeper of Time", "Ides of March", films "Spy, Get Out!" and "The Man Who Changed Everything."
Step 8
The best work of the operator was recognized as "Keeper of Time", which bypassed "The Tree of Life", "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Artist" and the picture "War Horse".
Step 9
"Oscar" for the best scenery was received by the same "Keeper of Time". He was relegated to War Horse, The Artist, Midnight in Paris and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.

The Best Costumes Award went to The Artist. “WE. Believe in Love”,“Jane Eyre”,“Keeper of Time”and“Anonymous”.

The jury awarded the film award for the best sound to the "Keeper of Time". Among the nominees were "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", "The Man Who Changed Everything", "Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon" and "War Horse".

"Oscar" for the best sound editing went to "Keeper of Time". The same films as in the previous one took part in this nomination, but instead of “The Man Who Changed Everything”, “Drive” appeared in the list of contenders.

"Oscar" for the best make-up was awarded to "Iron Lady". Together with her, the award was claimed by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" and "Mysterious Albert Nobbs".

The best song was chosen from only 2 nominees: "Rio" and "The Muppets" (winner). But 5 claimed the best soundtrack - "Keeper of Time", "War Horse", "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn", "Spy, Get Out!" and "The Artist" who received the statuette.

Best Animated Short Film nominated for Morning Walk, Fantastic Flying Books by Mr. Morris Lessmore (winner), Moon, Sunday, Wildlife. The best animation was "Rango", beating out "Puss in Boots", "Chiko and Rita", "Kung Fu Pandu 2" and "Cat Life".
Step 18
The battle for the title of the best short feature film unfolded between "Raju", "On the other side of the Atlantic", "Journey to Yesterday", "Pentecost" and "Shore" (victory).
Step 19
The best short documentary film was Saving Faces, which defeated Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom, The New Baghdad Incident, God Is Big Elvis, The Barber of Birmingham. The best documentary - "The Undefeated", which left behind "Paradise Lost 3", "Pina: Dance of Passion", "To Hell and Back", "If a Tree Falls".
Step 20
Best Foreign Language Film - Iranian "Divorce of Nader and Simin". He surpassed the Belgian Bullhead, the Israeli Note, the Canadian Mr. Lazar and the Polish Sheltered.
