Alena Doletskaya is a Russian journalist and translator. Many people know her as the first editor-in-chief of Russian Vogue. She was at the helm for 12 years. Colleagues have long dubbed her the avant-garde of glossy journalism.
Biography: early years
Alena Stanislavovna Doletskaya was born on January 10, 1955. Her parents were doctors: her father was a pediatric surgeon, and her mother was an oncologist. Alena has an older brother who followed in the footsteps of her parents and became a resuscitator. Alena chose a different path, although immediately after school she planned to become a student at a medical university. The parents themselves dissuaded her from this step.
Alena decided to try herself on stage. She easily entered the Moscow Art Theater School. However, this did not suit the parents. For this reason, Alena soon dropped out of school. The famous actor Yuri Nikulin, who was her uncle, recommended entering some humanitarian university. Then few people would have thought that this advice would predetermine her entire future destiny.
Doletskaya became a student of the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov. She graduated with honors, becoming a comparative philologist. Alena decided to continue her studies in graduate school. Subsequently, she began teaching English at the alma mater. In parallel, she translated books by such authors as Ray Bradbury, William Faulkner.
Career
In the early nineties, Alena left teaching, becoming a PR agent at De Beers, which was engaged in the production of diamonds. She received this position thanks to her husband, who was a diplomat. In 1994, Doletskaya was fired with a scandal. She asked the company for a loan to buy a home, while hiding her real estate, which she already had then.
Soon Doletskaya got a job at the Russian office of the British Council. There she organized exhibitions, including at the Tretyakov Gallery and the Kremlin. Subsequently, Alena worked for BBC radio and the German RTL channel.
In 1998, Doletskaya became the head of the Russian version of Vogue magazine. She built his concept from scratch, adapted it to the needs of Russian women. The publication soon became the most respected fashion magazine in the country. And in many respects this is the merit of Doletskaya. She devoted 12 years to this magazine. In 2010, Alena left him of her own free will.
A year later, she became editor-in-chief of the Russian version of Interview magazine. Soon she began to supervise its release in Germany.
Personal life
Alena Doletskaya was married to Boris Asoyan. The husband was a diplomat and held a very high post. He specialized in South African countries. Recently he was ambassador to Botswana. In 1992, Asoyan committed suicide. His death was mysterious. Soon after the funeral, letters were found in which he asked to blame Alena for his death. Boris's relatives believe that it was his wife who drove him to suicide.
Soon Alena began an affair with the American journalist John Helmer. Doletskaya parted with the scandal with him. The American said that she appropriated his five-room apartment in Moscow. Subsequently, the former lovers took a long time to understand in the courtroom.
