The choice of a name for a newborn is an important and responsible decision, on which the fate of the child will largely depend. The tradition of choosing a name in accordance with the Orthodox calendar has been practiced in Russia from the time of Epiphany to communism. In our time, it is being revived, and many parents, even not directly related to Christianity, choose the name of their daughter or son according to the calendar.
Instructions
Step 1
Take the Orthodox calendar listing the names of the saints whose memory is celebrated on the child's birthday. Read the history ("life") of each of them, especially if you like the name. Find out the translation of the name. This verbal information (biography and meaning of the name) can symbolize your attitude towards the child or hopes for his future. For example, such a rare name as Evdokia means "benevolence", and Agapy - "beloved", Alexey - "defender, champion, winner".
Step 2
If there are no names that you like or correspond to the gender, look at the eighth day after birth (a week later). Analyze the names of the saints remembered on this date. In general, it is customary to baptize and call the child's name on the eighth day.
Step 3
If on the eighth day there is no name that you like, look at all dates up to the fortieth birthday. Some names will be repeated, but the history of each saint is unique. You are sure to find a name that is right for your child.
